¡Hola! Thanks for joining us. We designed this cool worksheet for you to practice the verb GUSTAR (to like), which is essential in the language and probably the most important verb to talk about likes and dislikes in Spanish. Let’s start…
Directions:
Students could work individually or in pairs to solve the exercises on this worksheet.
On top of the worksheet, we explain that the verb GUSTAR (to like) will be conjugated as GUSTA when we refer to one object and GUSTAN for many in the present tense. You must also add an indirect object pronoun too depending on the sentence’s subject, plus a prepositional phrase (a mí, a ti, a nosotros…) with the preposition “A” (to).
In order to solve the first exercise, students must fill in the empty cells in the chart with either an indirect object pronoun or one of two forms of GUSTAR: gusta and gustan. Each row represents a full sentence once complete, except for the “Subject” in the first column that serves only as a reference to know which prepositional pronoun and indirect object pronoun we need to add. This relationship is similar to how the English pronoun “I” is related to the “Me” from English. For the second exercise, students should unscramble the sentences, add the verb GUSTAR plus a pronoun to write full sentences with these words, for example:
Yo / los gatos. | A mí me gustan los gatos/Me gustan los gatos. (I like cats) |
Ella / no / el plan. | A ella no le gusta el plan (She doesn’t like the plan) |
