This time, we will introduce the vocabulary for kitchen appliances in Spanish, as well as words and phrases that are commonly used when these things need repairs or maintenance. You will listen to many audio examples with this vocabulary and then we will practice with two listening activities, plus their interactive quizzes. Let’s start…
Vocabulary Introduction: Kitchen Appliances in Spanish
First of all, take a couple of minutes to look at the following picture showing some of the most common kitchen appliances in Spanish. We will be using these words later in sentences and in both listening activities, so please make sure you are familiar with the vocabulary.
Dealing with problems with kitchen appliances in Spanish
Next, the vocabulary for kitchen appliances in Spanish from the picture will be used in a set of sentences. Pay attention to the pronunciation of these words, the key verbs in this topic, beside the phrases and questions that we use when trying to fix appliances or dealing with other problems in the kitchen. The key verbs in these examples are:
Dar mantenimiento (to maintain), dañarse (to damage), quebrar (to break), reparar (to fix), limpiar (to clean), necesitar (to need), reemplazar (to replace), cambiar (to change), encontrar ( to find), poner (to put) and comprar (to buy).
TOSTADORA – Compré una tostadora hace un mes, pero dejó de funcionar de repente.
TOASTER – I bought a toaster a month ago, but it suddenly stopped working.

HORNO MICROONDAS – Puedes calentar la cena en el microondas. Ya funciona bien.
MICROWAVE OVEN – You can heat dinner in the microwave. It works fine already.

CAFETERA – Los niños quebraron el envase de vidrio de la cafetera. Necesito comprar un envase de repuesto.
COFFEE MAKER – The children broke the glass container of the coffee maker. I need to buy a replacement container.

ARROCERA – La arrocera se dañó. Ya es bastante vieja, así que la reemplazaré por una nueva.
RICE COOKER – The rice cooker is damaged. It’s old, so I’ll replace it with a new one.

BATIDORA – ¿Has visto la batidora? – Si, creo que la dejaste sobre esa mesa.
MIXER – Have you seen the mixer? – Yes, I think you left it on that table.

LAVADORA – Este mes debo darle mantenimiento a la lavadora.
WASHING MACHINE – This month, I must maintain the washing machine.

REFRIGERADORA – La refrigeradora sufrió un desperfecto de fábrica, así que la garantía cubre su reparación.
REFRIGERATOR – The refrigerator suffered a factory fault, so the warranty covers its repair.

COCINA / ESTUFA – No olvides limpiar la estufa luego de usarla para evitar que se oxide.
KITCHEN / STOVE – Don’t forget to clean the stove after use to prevent rust.

ASPIRADORA – La aspiradora no tiene potencia. El técnico dice que necesito cambiarle algunas piezas.
VACUUM CLEANER – The vacuum has no power. The technician says I need to change some parts.

PERCOLADORA – La percoladora dejó de funcionar esta mañana luego de hacer el café.
PERCOLATOR – The coffee percolator stopped working this morning after making coffee.

SANDWICHERA – Esta sandwichera es de muy mala marca. Siempre quema los emparedados.
SANDWICH MAKER – This sandwich maker is a very bad brand. It always burn the sandwiches.

LICUADORA – ¡Espera! No pongas tanto hielo dentro de la licuadora. Se podría dañar.
BLENDER – Wait! Don’t put so much ice into the blender. It could get damaged.

EXTRACTOR DE JUGO – Parece que el motor del extractor de jugo dejó de funcionar porque un fusible se quemó.
JUICE EXTRACTOR – It appears that the juice extractor motor stopped working because a fuse blew.
|
LAVAPLATOS – El lavaplatos se dañó porque pusimos demasiados platos y cubiertos dentro.
DISHWASHER – The dishwasher broke because we put too many plates and clutery in it.

HORNO ELÉCTRICO – El horno eléctrico de mi casa se dañó por la tormenta eléctrica de ayer.
ELECTRIC OVEN – The electric oven in my home was damaged by yesterday’s electrical storm.

OLLA DE PRESIÓN – ¿Cuál es el problema con la olla de presión? – La válvula está bloqueada con restos de comida.
PRESSURE COOKER – What’s the problem with the pressure cooker? – The valve is blocked with food debris.

BALANZA/PESA – Esta pesa no sirve ¿Se puede reparar o debemos comprar una nueva?
SCALE / WEIGHT – This scale does not work. Can it be repaired or should we buy a new one?

ESTUFA ELÉCTRICA – La garantía de la estufa eléctrica se venció el mes pasado, así que tenemos que pagar la reparación.
ELECTRIC STOVE – The warranty on the electric stove expired last month, so we have to pay for the repair.

MOLINO PARA CARNE – ¿Sabes dónde puedo encontrar piezas para reparar este molino eléctrico?
MEAT GRINDER – Do you know where I can find parts to repair this electric grider?

WAFLERA – Mi waflera no sirve para nada. ¿Conoces a alguien que pueda repararlas?
