Vocabulary in context: Questions and phrases to talk about the house. 

First, please pay attention to some key phrases and questions that you need to know in order to understand the content of the recordings about the house in this lesson. Some of these expressions will talk about the location of furniture around the house, the location of some specific areas and some other things that can be very useful to understand what the owner of a house is explaining to you when you are renting a house in Spanish.

El baño está a la izquierda/ a la derecha.
The bathroom is on the left / on the right.
La cocina está frente a / junto a la sala.
The kitchen is in front of / next to the living room.
Hay un jardín al fondo de la casa.
There is a garden at the back of the house.
La sala y la cocina están en el piso de abajo, y los cuartos en el piso de arriba.
The living room and kitchen are downstairs, and the bedrooms are upstairs.
Mi habitación está al final del pasillo y tiene un baño y un balcón.
My room is at the end of the hall and has a bathroom and a balcony.
El cuarto principal tiene vista a las montañas.

  • Este es el comedor y a la derecha está la sala.
  • La cocina está a la izquierda.
  • La sala está junto a la cocina.
  • Mi cuarto está al final del pasillo, a la derecha.
  • Es un cuarto grande con una vista hermosa del parque.
  • Tú puedes llevar la maleta al piso de arriba siguiendo estas escaleras.
  • Nosotros dejamos nuestras pertenencias en la sala.

Listening Activity No. 2: Exploring and renting a house in Spanish

  • Francisco: ¡Hola! Me llamo Francisco. Pase adelante por favor.
  • Gabriela: ¡Muchos gusto Francisco! Yo soy Gabriela. Es un placer conocerte.
  • Francisco: Igualmente Gabriela ¡Bienvenida! Permíteme mostrarte alrededor de la casa.
  • Gabriela: Me parece excelente. Comencemos entonces.
  • Francisco: Bien, esta es la sala. Como puedes ver, es una habitación bastante espaciosa. Tiene sofás, un par de sillas, varias pinturas colgadas en la pared y un televisor para que puedas ver tus programas favoritos.
  • Gabriela: Me gusta la sala. ¿Puedo redecorar algunas partes?
  • Francisco: Claro que si, pero que no involucren cambios drásticos. La cocina está a la derecha de la sala. Ahí mismo tienes un comedor disponible.
  • Gabriela: ¿La casa tiene garaje?
  • Francisco: Claro que si. Está a izquierda de la sala. Podemos entrar por esa puerta y llegamos al garaje.
  • Gabriela: ¿Qué hay sobre las habitaciones?
  • Francisco: Pues mira, en la planta inferior donde estamos ahora hay dos habitaciones sencillas. Hay un baño dentro de cada habitación. Si seguimos este pasillo las podrás ver.
  • Gabriela: Excelente. Vamos al piso de arriba ahora…
  • Francisco: Pues mira, también hay dos habitaciones muy cómodas en el piso de arriba, un estudio y un balcón con vista al mar.
  • Gabriela: Me encanta el balcón. La casa está linda. ¿Está bien si invito a algunos amigos para una pequeña fiesta de bienvenida?
  • Francisco: Claro que si. Al finalizar el contrato de arriendo, puedes hacer uso de tu nuevo hogar como todas las obligaciones claro.
  • Gabriela: Entiendo. Gracias Francisco.
