Directions:
Students could work individually or in pairs to solve the exercises on this worksheet.
As it is explained on top of this worksheet, the imperfect tense in Spanish is used to talk about actions that happened regularly in the past such as “Yo leía poesía todo el tiempo” (I used to read poetry all the time), past actions in progress and to describe how situations, people or things in were at some point in time. Both the imperfect tense and the preterite tense are used to talk about past actions in Spanish, but the main difference is that actions in the preterite like “Terminé” (I finished el libro) are over right there and do not have any continuity like the ones expressed with the imperfect tense. Be mindful of the forms of the verbs SER, VER and IR in this tense.
To solve the first exercise, students must conjugate a list of 10 common verbs using the imperfect tense in Spanish for both regular and irregular verbs. They could use a conjugation tool to double-check the right form of the verbs to make sure they are using the right form. As for the second exercise, students must fill in the blanks in each sentence using the imperfect form of the verbs in parentheses.

Extra in-class activity:
Students work in pairs to write a short story about a fictional character and the things this character used to do. They should use the imperfect tense in Spanish to talk about his/her habits, simultaneous actions and so on. They could adapt a famous story or create a new one.
