Let’s talk about Travel in Spanish – Conversation cards

¡Hola! Thanks for using our resources. This time, we are sharing this nice PDF worksheet to practice some vocabulary and structures to talk about travel through a conversation cards activity. This group-work activity can be very useful to give students the chance to speak Spanish in the classroom under their teacher’s guidance.

Directions:

Students form groups of four to participate in this speaking activity.

Each group of students gets a copy of the PDF worksheet. First, they must cut out the conversations cards, which include beautiful drawings and questions about people’s travel experiences and habits in Spanish, such as: places they like to visit, how they move around to get there, what they buy or take with them, and so forth. In their groups, students must form a deck, shuffle it and take turns to draw a card at a time, and then answer the question on it. Each student must speak for at least 30 seconds, otherwise the conversation card should be returned to the deck. The student who speaks for 30 seconds straight using the right vocabulary for things like places around town, plus the correct structures like the present perfect in Spanish (can use any tense), will keep the card. The student who holds the most cards by the end of the game wins. Again, what matters is having students speak freely and as spontaneously as possible about travelling experiences during an acceptable period of time.

Planning a trip to a Spanish-speaking country

In small groups, students decide on a Spanish-speaking country they would like to travel to. They should do some research about the country, especially about its most beautiful places, food and other activities they could do there together. They prepare a small presentation with slides or poster papers, the way they feel more comfortable, and finally present for the rest of the class. The main idea for this activity is to describe the trip in Spanish as if they were actually visiting that place, and explain what made this trip special for them. They can make up a story or two about the trip. The more creative, the better.
